Patrick James, Past-President of ICCS, will serve as President of the International Studies Association (ISA) in 2018-19. ISA has been the premier organization for connecting scholars and practitioners in fields of international studies since 1959. Luca Codignola, Past-president of ICCS has been elected a Foreign Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. The Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada have elected 89 new Fellows, including 2 Foreign Fellows, 2 Specially Elected Fellows and 2 Honorary Fellows. The newly elected Fellows have diverse backgrounds and disciplines. They have been elected by their peers in recognition of outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement. GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The ICCS Graduate Student Scholarships, worth a maximum amount of $4,000, are offered each year to a dozen of students, helping them to spend 4-6 weeks at a Canadian university or research site, other than their own, doing research related to their thesis or dissertation in the field of Canadian Studies. All applications must be submitted by an Association for Canadian Studies to the ICCS by November 24, 2016. CANADIAN STUDIES POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

The ICCS Postdoctoral Fellowships give the opportunity to young scholars, who have completed a doctoral thesis on a topic primarily related to Canada and are not employed in a full-time university teaching position, to visit a university with a Canadian Studies program for a teaching or research fellowship. The length of the stay will be of a minimum of one month and maximum of three months. During that stay, the student will receive $2,500 per month, plus the cost of a return airline ticket for a maximum of CAD$10,000. The application deadline is November 24, 2016. GOVERNOR GENERAL’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD IN CANADIAN STUDIES

The Governor General's International Award for Canadian Studies is intended for a scholar who has made an outstanding contribution to scholarship and to the development of Canadian Studies internationally. PIERRE SAVARD AWARDS

The Pierre Savard Awards are designed to recognize and promote each year outstanding scholarly monographs, written by members of the Canadian Studies international network, that contribute to a better understanding of Canada. There are two categories: Book written in French or English and Book written in a language other than French or English. The deadline for submitting applications to the ICCS is November 24, 2016. BEST DOCTORAL THESIS IN CANADIAN STUDIES AWARD

This ICCS Award is designed to recognize and promote each year an outstanding PhD thesis on a Canadian topic, written by a member (or one of his/her students) of a Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member, and which contributes to a better understanding of Canada. ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF CANADIAN STUDIES

The 42nd Annual Conference of the British Association of Canadian Studies (BACS) will be held at Canada House, London, on April 20-22, 2017. They are currently accepting papers for the event. For this historic anniversary, papers on themes of enduring interest to Canadianists will be welcomed. Because space will be limited, priority will be given to paper sessions and round-table panels on the following themes:

CONFERENCE HOSTED BY THE ASSOCIATION FOR CANADIAN STUDIES IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND (ACSANZ)

The ACSANZ is currently inviting abstracts for papers that address the idea of constitutions and Canada for their Conference, entitled Constituting Canada. Interdisciplinary Approaches to an Idea, which will take place in University of Wollongong, Wollongong, NSW, Australia on July 13 – 14, 2017. The conference will ask how nations, states, and peoples in Canada have been constituted, and investigate the significance of constitutive moments in the Canadian context. COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS - INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS FELLOWSHIP IN CANADA

The International Affairs Fellowship in Canada seeks to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between rising generations of leaders and thinkers in the United States and Canada. CFR will be selecting one to two awardees each year to spend six to twelve months hosted by a Canadian institution to deepen their knowledge of Canada. The program is open to mid-career professionals who have a demonstrated commitment to a career in foreign policy and have an interest in U.S.- Canada relations, and awards a stipend of $95,000 for a period of twelve months (or a prorated stipend if the duration of the fellowship is shorter) as well as a modest travel allowance. They are currently recruiting for their Fellowships program, including the International Fellowship in Canada. Interested candidates who meet the program’s eligibility requirements can apply online between July 1 and October 31 on an annual basis. Official selections will be made by January, and the fellowship will start in September. SPACE, PLACE AND HYBRIDITY IN NATIONAL IMAGINATION

The research group ILCEA4 is pleased to announce the organization of an international conference on “Space, Place and Hybridity in National Imagination” to be held at Grenoble Alpes University on November 23-24, 2017, in Grenobles Alpes University (France). The conference will examine the foundations of any “imagined community” (Benedict Anderson) and the ways in which artistic productions cause this set of images, values and references to evolve. These both reflect a history and a heritage but also expose their inherent limitations and underlying ideology, thus paving the way for the progressive transformation of such national figures, values and spatial representations. They are currently seeking proposals, due no later than January 6, 2017. An abstract (max. 300 words) either in French or in English, and a short biographical note (max. 150 words) can be submitted to both Christine Vandamme (christine.vandamme@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr) and Cyril Besson (cyril.besson@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr).
